Where Tuffwraps Is the Better Pick

  • You don't like thumb loops. The Villain wraps skip the thumb loop. You tighten them with a belt-loop system instead, which some lifters prefer.
  • You want a longer or stiffer wrap. Tuffwraps sells 24" and 30" Villain wraps, plus STIFF versions, for heavy powerlifting and strongman pressing. We only make 18".
  • You want more reviews to read. Their product page shows 2,640 reviews.
  • You want a written warranty. Tuffwraps lists a 6-month warranty on wrist wraps.
  • You compete in USPA. Their FAQ says the wraps are USPA-recommended. We don't list federation approval. Either way, check your federation's current rules before a meet.

Where Bay Gear Co. Stands Out

  • A thumb loop if you want one. Sixteen of our 18 designs have a thumb loop. It holds the wrap in place while you wind it, and you can slip it off once you're wrapped. See How to Wear Wrist Wraps.
  • A slightly lower price. Our 18-inch wraps are $28.99, and the 16" Villain is $30. Measured differently, though: Tuffwraps lists 16 inches of fabric plus 4 inches of Velcro, and we list ours as 18 inches long.
  • The prints. 18 original designs, including Tactical Hawaiian, Black Camo, Pirate Jolly Roger, Galaxy, Skull & Roses and Wild West Donuts. Every design costs the same.
  • Free shipping from $49. That's half of Tuffwraps' $99 minimum. Orders placed by 3 PM ET ship the same day.
  • A prepaid return label. Return unused items within 30 days, and we email you a prepaid label.
  • Veteran-owned. Brian Young founded Bay Gear Co. in 2017 as an active-duty U.S. Marine, working out of his barracks room at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. We're veteran-owned and operated.

16 Inches vs 18 Inches: Does It Matter?

Length changes how many turns you get around your wrist. Brands measure differently, though. Tuffwraps' 16" means 16 inches of fabric plus a 4-inch Velcro end, 20 inches overall.

  • Shorter wraps (around 16") give you a few turns. Tuffwraps suggests 16" for Olympic-style movements and everyday lifting.
  • 18-inch wraps add a little more fabric for an extra partial turn. That suits most lifters on bench, overhead press and squats.
  • Longer wraps (24" to 30") give the most turns and the stiffest feel. They're usually chosen for heavy powerlifting and strongman pressing.

Our best wrist wraps guide goes deeper on length, stiffness and closures. For lift-specific tips, see Wrist Wraps for Bench Press, Wrist Wraps for Squats and Will Wrist Wraps Make You Bench More?

Thumb Loop vs Belt Loop

  • Thumb loop: You hook the loop on your thumb and wrap toward your forearm. It keeps the wrap from spinning while you pull it tight. Many lifters take the loop off their thumb after wrapping.
  • Belt loop (Tuffwraps Villain): You feed the end through a loop and pull it tight like a belt. There's nothing on your thumb.

Neither is "right." It comes down to which one you find easier to get tight and comfortable.

Which Should You Buy?

  • Buy Tuffwraps if you don't want a thumb loop, want a 24" or 30" wrap for heavy pressing, compete in USPA, or want a written 6-month warranty.
  • Buy Bay Gear Co. if you want an 18" wrap with a thumb loop, a print that stands out, free shipping from $49, and to support a veteran-owned brand.
